Michigan Drill's Steam Oxide Coated Hand Taps offer superior tool life and decreased friction, commonly used for general purpose tapping applications where increased performance is desired. Steam Oxide Coating produces a thin iron oxide surface which reduces friction between the tool and material acting as a lubrication media. They are recommended for tapping free machining steels, stainless steel, aluminum, zinc and ductile steel. Hand taps are available in Taper, Plug and Bottoming Camfers and can be utilized for through or blind hole tapping.
Please Note: The letter designates the Chamfer style
- P = Plug - 3-5 Thread Chamfer - Most versatile choice for through or blind holes
- B = Bottoming - 1-2 Thread Chamfer - Designed for threading near bottom of blind holes
- T = Taper - 7-10 Thread Chamfer - Designed for easier starts and less torque required.
